ABOUT US

At the heart of Nekisse Homes we are committed to providing a real difference in young peoples lives and we do this by listening, being non judgemental and providing a safe space for every young person that chooses to live with us.

We provide therapeutic support to address difficult and challenging situations. We work closely with local authorities and professional supporting bodies to ensure every young person receives bespoke support. We have strong affiliations with our local gym, who provide discounted membership to our your young people, we work closely with mental health life coaches, Personal Trainers and Writers who are all highly qualified, working in industry and are committed to working with young people.

We recognise the challenge young people encounter as they prepare to embark on independent living and our experienced staff are highly dedicated to providing empathetic, positive, respectful interaction, so that young people can go on to thrive in the wider community and live a life they deserve.

OUR SUPPORT SERVICES AND AFFILIATIONS

Mental Health

We train our staff in Mental Health awareness and have a qualified MHFAider on hand 24/7, which enables us to listen, reassure and respond, and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

Our staff recognise warning signs of mental health and have the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping themselves safe.

We empower young people to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

We take mental health seriously and work closely with mental health specialists who are available to work with our young people and provide our staff with training.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention

Our staff are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, which is a model that is built to manage challenging behaviour. This allows staff to respond to young people effectively in crisis situations and also promotes growth and development. The skills, knowledge, and professional judgment of staff in responding to crises are critical factors in helping young people learn constructive and adaptive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger, rejection, hurt, and depression.

Sports Coaching

It is scientifically proven that exercise releases happy hormones. It also reduces stress, anxiety, and interrupts intrusive thoughts and helps you deal with the ebs and flows of life.

We work with a qualified level 3 personal Nike pro trainer, Justyn, who has worked with young people for over 4 years. Justyn is also a Mental Health advocate who incorporates exercise with mental wellbeing, challenging young people to push past their boundaries and build self worth, confidence, resilience and overcome personal challenges. Justyn appeared on the elite channel 4 show SAS: Whos Dares Wins in 2021, which puts contestants through the most gruelling challenges, which is the ultimate test of their physical and psychological resilience.

If a young person is interested in sports of any kind, regardless of their level, a bespoke programme will be built for them, which could include running, boxing, weight training , spin class or swimming.

We support young people who are interested in obtaining a fitness qualification.

Writing Therapy

Writing is a form of expressive therapy that uses the act of writing and processing the written word for therapeutic purposes, which helps ease feelings of emotional trauma.

We work with a well known script writer Delia-René whose credits include BBC Holby City, BBC Waterloo Road and children’s TV JoJo and Gran Gran. Delia-René is a regular correspondent on Sky TV News regarding TV & Film and interviewed on BBC 1Xtra. She regularly panels and judges at film festivals including BFI, Women Of The Lens, and Watersprite Film Festival.

Delia-René is passionate about working with young people, as she was once a teacher, and delivers workshops online and in person for aspiring writers.

If a young person is interested in writing professionally or just for fun, regardless of their level, a bespoke programme can be built for them.

We support young people who are interested in pursuing a career in writing.

Therapeutic Support

We work with young people to ensure they receive the correct support, using the right methods for them. We do not force therapy on any young person but we do advocate it, as it is a tool to identify issues that young people may be facing. At Nekisse Homes we focus on asking questions, active listening and holding space for young people.

Podcast Therapy

Listening to podcasts can help to reduce stress and anxiety, provide emotional support, and gain new perspectives on life. It can also assist with increasing self-awareness, which is essential for managing mental health. But more importantly, creating a podcast where you can speak openly and share your personal experiences have the same effect.

We are proud to be affiliates with DMC Studios, who are a podcast studio/content Creation studio made by content creators for content creators.

DMC Studios offer a range of services that include high quality equipment to bring your vision to life. They are open 24 hours a day which allows a young person to film Podcasts at a time that suits them.

We have teamed up with DMC Studios for our young people to book studio sessions at a discounted rate.

We support young people who are interested in pursuing a career in content creation.

NEETS

We pride ourselves on working with young people to ensure they receive the correct support, using the right methods for them. Studies have shown that not working or being in education can have a detrimental effect on physical and mental health, and increase the likelihood of unemployment, low wages, or low quality of work, later on in life.

We do not force a young person to do anything they are not ready for but we do strongly advocate education and working.

The Brave Project

We are affiliated with The Brave Project, created in 2020, by Donelle Grant, which is a community interest company, non-profit suicide prevention and wellbeing service; for BAME boys and young men.

Their mission is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education.

BAME boys and young men found openly talking about their mental health/wellbeing difficult which and are at higher risk of suicide

Dog Therapy - Queenie

It is well known that dog assisted therapy in care facilities helps reduce symptoms of depression. Research suggests that the dogs help facilitate social interaction and create positive emotional responses.

We have a house dog called Queenie. She is a Cane Corso aged 3 years old. She is incredibly friendly, loyal, and loving. Her mission is to make you feel supported and loved and to obtain cuddles.

GYM

We have affiliated with our local gym and every young person that is placed with us aged 16 yrs - 25 yrs will receive free membership. The gym is brand new, has two swimming pools, a number of fitness classes run daily and a large gym area equipped with weights and cardio machines.

Get your running shoes on and get fit for free!
